Biogas is a renewable fuel produced through a biological process known as anaerobic digestion. In this process, microorganisms break down organic materials such as agricultural waste, food waste, animal manure, and municipal organic waste in an oxygen-free environment. During decomposition, a mixture of gases is produced, mainly methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).
Methane is the key component of biogas and is responsible for its energy value. This gas can be used for cooking, electricity generation, heating applications, and industrial processes. Biogas is considered an environmentally friendly energy source because it converts waste materials into useful fuel while reducing harmful emissions.
